One thing I've seen and really enjoyed are the wonderful collages done by some of my facebook friends...and they inspired me to try my own:

I had so much fun doing this collage...minus the cutting...I tried to go zen with it and just zone out and snip, but I don't think I accomplished that...I was pretty happy when the snippy snippy was done...
My favorite thing is the image of the boy and girl, which I did using the packing tape transfer method. If you google it, you'll get much better instructions, but basically, all you do is take a toner-based print (go to the library and make a copy if you need to...or do it at work like I did...shh...don't tell!), put clear packing tape over the top of it and then wet the back of the paper. Wait a minute or two and then start rubbing the wet paper and the paper part will come off and leave the toner behind on the packing tape! I think this is so neat, because you get to see whatever's behind the image (if you have light spots in the image anyway)! On a side note, this doesn't work with ink jet printers *sad face*...the internet told me so, but I had to try for myself...the internet was right...it just all comes off when you start rubbing...no adorable goodness gets left behind...
I had a blast doing this collage...so much so that I think I will have to do another one sometime! Perhaps I can handle the snipping, since the rest of the process is so much fun.

Oh, and before I forget, I would like to give an unpaid (although if they want to pay me that would be great) shout out to YES! paste, which is this awesome glue stuff that didn't wrinkle the paper AT ALL! Take that Elmer's glue (just kidding Elmer, I love you too...just for different applications...)! I am definitely going to be using the YES! paste from now one, it works so nicely!
first of all...You are soooooooo adorable!! I love your posts on the DY site!! I don't care for the precise snippy work all the time either....I tend to tear :) I love it though, of course do love love collages.....so I may be *slightly* biased!! thanks for sharing the post!!!!

Thank you! I'm doing the happy dance!!! (ok, it might be the I'm adorable dance...but that's between you and me :) ...) I feel like there has to be a secret trick to get out of the snippy work...I just haven't found it yet...they are very good at keeping the secret apparently... I will have to try to tear some stuff...but I'm very clumsy (it's amazing I haven't accidentally stabbed myself with scissors yet..yet today...) and a little afraid I will rip something I didn't mean to...I will have to practice ripping... Thanks for coming and checking out the blog and for being so kind!
DeleteThe packing tape transfers are great. Unfortunately I have an inkjet printer, but magazine images work fine. I like how the colours come though on your black and white images. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think the color coming through the black and white is the best part of this type of transfer! I use the copy machine we have at work because I have an inkjet printer too...it is the perk of an office job!
DeleteI so love your collage, Sweets! It is really a nice layout....as you know I absolutely love creating pages of collages....it's like a journey and I never know where it will take me but I am almost always pleased with the ride....as far as the snipping is concerned, if you use little manicure scissors (you probably already do) it is easier and you get a much "cleaner" image. I have a pair of little scissors that curve at the end and these are great for getting around those little corners.....on the opposite end of the spectrum I also love the "rough" look of torn images. Just have fun and please keep sharing!!!! Hugs....<3
ReplyDeleteThanks my Cheryl! This was the first collage I had ever done, and I had a lot of fun doing it...ok...the snipping was not so much fun...but the rest of it was very fun! I have some little snips, but I didn't think to use them! I will have to try them out, and maybe I will have a little less frustration with the snipping! I am afraid of the tearing, because I think I will accidentally tear the wrong part! I need to practice the tearing thing...then maybe it won't be so scary!
