Work in progress

First, I want to jump for joy over the fact that when I got on Blogger this morning I saw that you guys have made me hit 4,000 page views while I was not looking!!!  It was 4,046 when I looked at it!  You made my day first thing this morning!  I am trying to think of a giveaway for when I hit 5,000 and if I don't come up with something soon, I'll run out of time!  You all are making this happen REALLY fast, so THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Because I'm scared I'll go to the dentist today and get all drugged up and forget to post, I figured I better do something before I head off for the day...  And since I don't have anything finished to share just yet, I thought I'd share a work in progress that I've got going on.  This is my paint over collage that we learned about in Book of Days with Effy Wild.  I am using it for my next Inner Excavations spread, so instead of a picture from a magazine, the picture I started with is one of me:

Gratuitous bathroom picture...also, I totally crocheted that cowl!

And here's what I've got so far:

My nose is giving me fits...and the hair...I ALWAYS have trouble with hair...

I really like the face overall!  And for some reason, I am LOVING the really strong colors!  They make me super happy, and they're not colors I'd pick usually I think...especially that background color...but I like it a lot...

I'm trying to think of some kind of quote or journaling to put in the background...something about being determined maybe...I think the face looks very determined/set on a goal of some kind.  So if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

All right, now I've got to run or I'll be late...  When you hear from me again, it will be from a mouth with one less tooth and, hopefully, a mouth with 1/4 less pain than when I started!  Yay!!!

    1. Thanks Gabriele! I am going to remember that I am an artist! :) You know you're an artist, when an artist you admire calls you one! And I admire your work very much, so I must be an artist! <3

  2. Funny photo of you, sticking your tongue out like that! How come you didn't paint it that way? (Or, perhaps better question, how come you stuck it out if you weren't going to paint it?). Either way, you're really pretty, woman! :-D

The painting is very good and I look forward to seeing how you will continue with it. May I suggest that you add a litte highlight on the tip of your nose to make that line invisible? Look at the photo and you'll see what I mean.

As for text, I don't have any suggestions, but you could always check the quote ideas over at MMM and see if you find one you like there (there are over 300 to choose from).

    Good luck at the dentist!!!
Oh, and congrats with more than 4000 hits! :-D

    1. I know...I'm so weird... :) This picture was from quite a while ago (before I ever started art journaling), and I was trying to take a picture of the cowl for my sister so she could see what it looked like on a person, but I don't like to have my picture taken...so I just started being silly, and it turned out to be a pretty good photo of me (I am NOT photogenic at all). When I went to paint it, I did the eyes first, and they looked so serious and I liked that, so I didn't want to do the tongue sticking out in the painting and make it be a silly painting. I liked how she looks very determined in the painting.

I see what you mean about the highlight on the nose, and I am definitely going to be doing that! Thank you for pointing it out to me! <3

I do need to go check on all the quotes over at M3, I know you have your hands full! I'm excited to see which ones you will choose for stamps!!!

    1. Thanks Shannon! I don't usually like the bright colors, but there's just something about them on this page that makes me so squishy happy it's ridiculous!

  5. No wonder you are sticking your tongue out. That is my reaction to the dentist too. Nice painting.

    1. I swear, when I first started going to the dentist, I did not mind it at all; I couldn't understand why people hate going to the dentist so much...but every time I go, it just gets worse and worse! I always thought I'd die under a pile of art supplies, but I'm starting to think it will be from complications of dentistry!

  6. That nose is a perfect depiction! Sorry about the dentist, gotta be my least favorite place to. Visit! I love the colors also.

    1. Thanks Jackie! I didn't always hate the dentist, but I swear after this visit, I'm just going to make them gas me and then do as they will...and then keep me on the gas for the recovery...yeah, that's a good plan...I like that plan! :)

  7. Finally, I get to see what you look like...and you're adorable! I knew you would be, of course!
I think the reason you are having trouble with the nose is that your photo is coming from a bit below but your painting is straight forward. The angles are different. If you took another photo full on, and used that for a reference, you might find that helpful. Just a thought.

    1. I am doing the Miss America wave right now! :D Thanks Raine!

I think you are right about the angles being the thing that is giving me issues. I am going to get another photo for reference to help me out! Thank you for the heads up on that! Woo Hoo! I'm doing the happy dance now! <3

  8. Sweets, your skin is flawless! I never noticed you had a little turned up nose, so cute! Awesome color scheme for the painting!!! The title of this blog post is "Work In Progress". It would be awesome for you to use WIP somehow on the page as it relates to your life. (My life is a Work In Progress... *insert wise Sweets-isms*)

Beautiful job on the cowl. Love you! Hugs, Pamikins

    1. I'm going to tell you that the flawless skin is an illusion of my masterful photography...trust me, it's an illusion... :) There's just not enough pixels in my camera to capture the flaws...

But the turned up nose thing is accurate! I always referred to it as my pig nose, until a really handsome gentleman told me that my nose was, and I quote "cute as a button", which I think is an odd thing for a sexy young man beast to say (considering that this is not 1945), but I took it and ran with it, and now I call it my adorable button nose!

I like your idea about using Work In Progress in some way on the page...I think I am going to combine that and Mo's idea and it will be PERFECTION! Now, to not ruin the painting with my horrible lettering! Pencil first, pencil first! :)

And thanks for the cowl lovin! Are you a scarf/cowl/hat wearer in winter? ...just curious...

  9. This is awesome, Sweet! Both - photo and painting :)
I hope you don't have to see the dentist too soon again.

Cheers & Congrats on 4000!!! (I'm easily excited about numbers too ;))

    1. Thanks Jana! Next dentist visit is in September, unless someone cancels and they can get me in sooner...but no more extractions, so hopefully the visits will go better next time!

I am super excited about 4000, and now I am curious about Treehouse Herbs! Will you send me the link to that so I can find out more? :)

  10. Sweets - that comment showing 'Treehouse Herbs' - it's me, Jana ususally signing with TangledPen. Just forgot to change that name when signing (mentioning it to avoid confusion ;))

  11. From weakness my strength is blossoming. Everyday I move forward and I will not look backwards with regret for regret will only hold be back.
I love this painting and also the colours. I think your hair is lovely and Hoorah! for making that awesome cowl :D

    1. I really like that Mo! I am going to use it and combine it with what Pam mentioned about Work in Progress, and I think that it will be just perfect and exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks for all the kind words! I like the colors too, and I don't know why...they're not ones I'd usually pick...but I like them a lot!

Thanks for the cowl compliment! I learned to crochet when I was a little kid, and it's the first thing I did with any kind of skill! I still do it, but not as often. Now I mostly do it when I watch tv...which is not too often...but I do still like to do it...maybe when the weather cools off I will do more... :)
