Magazine Collage


There is a big huge world just waiting...
I made this magazine collage over the weekend and finished it up last night.  I've been seeing this type of thing around for a while and thought I'd give it a go.  Teesha Moore is one who works in this type of thing, and she has some neat videos on how she creates her pieces HERE (then click the Techniques button).  I think her videos were helpful, even though I didn't alter my page quite as much as she does.

If I would have thought about it, I should have taken a before picture of the magazine page I used (maybe the next time I'll take pictures as I do it so you can see the steps...would that be fun?), but basically, magazine page cutouts as the border, the woman in the middle was one piece.  I glued her down, then cut up a bunch of various pieces and collaged a new skirt and shoes for her.  Then I used a Faber-Castell big brush pen and colored her shirt (it was white), used a black sharpie to go over some of the lines on her and then used gel pens (just cheapies from Michaels, but they work surprisingly well!) to add details to her.  For the lettering part, I used a white sharpie paint pen, which worked ok, but I don't think they are as awesome (or maybe I just got a funky one) as everybody else thinks they are. Maybe I just need to work with it more?  I won't give up on you yet, sharpie paint pen...

Overall, fun, fun, fun...I will be doing this again...and remembering to take before pictures...

      The videos on Teesha Moore's site were helpful, even though the style is different. She has some interesting thoughts.

    thanks Sweet Red for telling us about Teesha Moore! I am going to look her up tomorrow! I have been wanting to try something like this, but have felt....hesitant as to where to start! I liked how it turned out! Keep me posted on the marker...I was toying with buying one but if it isn't worth it then I will spend my money on something else....my budget is limited, got make it count :) love your post!

      Hooray! I'm glad I could help. Teesha Moore uses a lot more collage elements than I did...I don't have too much collage fodder (Now I'm on the look out!). So I just used more pen and markers (which I have a ton of...I'm an addict. *hangs head in shame*). But she has a lot of thoughts on how to do things, which is helpful to me when I first start doing something...then later I can start to play and do it a different way and see what works for me and what doesn't. I just noticed how a lot of people rave about those white Sharpie Paint Pens, but I don't think it lived up to the hype...maybe I got a bad one or maybe it's like when everybody goes and sees a movie and they keep talking about how great it is so much that by the time you go see it you think it will be the best movie ever, but they talked it up so much that it ends up being a little bit of a let down...where as if you hadn't heard all the buzz about it and just went to see it, you probably would have liked it better (I hope that makes sense!)...I do have to say I have a silver Sharpie Paint Pen that works really well, so again, maybe I just got an old one or something. I will keep you posted on them! I wonder if there's anything else like the Sharpie Paint Pens out there...I mean, there has to be right? I feel a google search coming on!
