It's All In My Head

Terrible, wonderful things...

And with a little shading to the plants added:

It's better with the shading, right?

Wednesday

Here's my most recent girl:
My older sister asked me what her name was...and I didn't know...I didn't know naming them was a thing.  But, I thought about it...and decided that her hair reminded me of Morticia Addams (from The Addams Family), but Morticia wouldn't wear a green sweater...  So I think she must be Wednesday all grown up and out on her own.

Wednesday is done on canvas...the background is alcohol ink.  I used Prismacolors and acrylic paint, as well as water colors.  Her hair is scrapbook paper!  Isn't that a neat technique/idea?  My favorite thing is her mouth, because I think it makes her look saucy.  I feel like I got the highlight just how I wanted too, which is something I've been practicing.

I really need to work on taking better pictures, or at least at having a more interesting background, instead of having my paneling and paperclips showing!  Although those paperclips are both useful and colorful, so they're not too bad I guess!

In the art journal...

Ah, quotes, how I love thee...

Here's a girl I did in my art journal:
The quote says "I find it shelter to speak to you." -Emily Dickinson

At first was going to have rain coming down in the blue (outside the umbrella), but I thought 'wouldn't it be nicer to be showered with love instead', so I did the hearts coming down inside the umbrella.  I really like the result!

I am liking this whole art journal thing so much.  I may not be very good at it (yet), but I love it anyway!  Besides, how do you get better but by practicing?  And I have been a busy bee, so hopefully, that will show soon enough!  Another good thing, is that it lets me try new techniques or ideas (like the love shower)...then when I am better, I can redo the idea or fix it a little till it really shines!  I probably wouldn't remember these ideas/techniques if I didn't put them down on paper now.

As always, I welcome questions, comments, ideas, and critique!

First Girl

So, I've been wanting to try my hand at a mixed media type girl, and this is my first.

I made her with the help of THIS video, which I needed badly for info on shading.  Shading has never been my strong suit...and honestly, I found the whole this pretty boring...until I saw this video.  It was definitely a boost to my understanding to see how she did things!

So here is my first girl partway through:

And here she is finished:

I wish I had some before pictures that would show just how much the one video helped me!  It was amazing how much better this is than what I was doing before!
